Hair Loss > Rogaine / Minoxidil > Regrowth EXCLUSIVE!!! Details on the Upcoming Rogaine Extra Strength!
Regrowth works hard to get as many details about important upcoming events in the hairloss world. Right now everybody wants to know the details on Rogaine Extra Strength, which was just approved by the FDA. Thanks to an anonymous source working with Upjohn, we have obtained information provided to distributors with the details for the upcoming Rogaine Extra Strength. Here is what Regrowth found out.
Results
Upjohn's information doesn't give much new in the way of details on the more
beneficial results of 5% other than what has already been reported in the press. The
5% formula is supposed to grow 45% more hair than the 2% formula. Regrowth can begin
as early as 2 months, compared to 4 months for the 2% formula. Regrowth will be
working to get more details on the 5% formula.
Pricing and Availability
The first batch of Rogaine Extra Strength will hit the stores the first week of
January. Upjohn has been working on getting things ready to go so it looks like that
date will be met. Upjohn recommends that it be sold in the shampoo section of the
store. However, for the first few months, the product is going to be in a special
display to attract attention. The recommended retail pricing will be $28.50 for one
bottle and $49.99 for two bottles. Due to FDA labeling practices, Upjohn will have
to rename Rogaine 2% Rogaine Regular Strength. The newly labeled Regular Strength
bottles will cost $23.50 for one bottle, $38.99 for two bottles and $49.99 for three
bottles. These are suggested retail prices. Local stores may offer additional
discounts.
Starter Kits
When 5% first comes out, they will be almost exclusively sold as 'Starter Kits.'
These will contain a trial size sample of Progaine shampoo and an
introductory/educational video tape to ensure that "has everything needed to
successfully regrow their hair."
Generics
A lot of people are wondering and speculating about how long until they can get
generic formulas and generic pricing. According to the Upjohn information, "We
anticipate three (3) years of exlusivity for Rogaine Extra Strength for Men."
Women
As you probably know, the new Rogaine is approved only for men. Of course,
no one is going to stop a woman from buying the OTC version if she wants. Upjohn
explains their reasons for not having the 5% formula approved for women. According
to their documentation, in their trials for women too many women dropped out for the
results to be statistically valid for the FDA. They are starting a larger trial of
women to prevent this from occuring again and will be going for FDA approval for women.
It is already approved for women in other countries. They also plan to
continue to promote the regular strength version for women in the meantime.
Marketing
This will be the biggest marketing push for a hairloss treatment in history.
Upjohn is planning to spend a huge amount on advertising and expects that starting
January 1, "On average, 91% of all men will see a Rogaine Extra Strength/Progaine ad
at least 6 times in a 4 week period!"
Side Effects
According to their literature, the most common side effect with the new formula
is itching and minor skin irritation in about 6% of patients. They do not list any
other side effects in this documentation, but it will be interesting to see if the
labeling lists any others.
New Claims
Upjohn will now be able to claim that Rogaine helps maintain and/or stop existing
loss. Figures on the percentages were not given in this documentation, though.
However if they list it in here, you can bet the FDA has signed on to letting them
say it to the public.
That is all the information for now. Regrowth will continue to work on providing more new information and also plans to have more information on Propecia available next month!
