Hey everyone...I'm new to this whole thing but I was hoping you guys could help me out with some general info. I've had a receding hairline since i was 18, im now 21 and it seems to be getting worse by the day, though that is certainly to some extent in my mind. to be specific, my hairline has crept back an inch on the temples and is fully covering but generally thinning on the top and back. i just can't seem to get myself to accept it yet and thought I'd at least give something a shot. Propecia's side effects, though temporary if use is discontinued, seems disturbing. Would 5% or 2% rogaine help? which should i try first...what about products like "saw palmetto" etc? It seems that they may help the hair you have look good while its there but doesnt regrow or prevent further loss from what i understand. i'd appreciate any input at this point...thanks!

Re: Looking for help...receding hairline/thinning hair re: rogaine

Maybe this will help? Propecia worked for me very well for over a year (NO hair loss and I was lossing it a lot). After a year or so I did notice the big "side affect" ;( Lack of sex drive big time and my cum turned into like a water thing, REALLY!!! Maybe I'm in the 2% (unlucky) that feels that side affect but it makes me wonder big time with the sperm count being so low that people are not speaking up/out. I would say way more then 2% feel it. More like 75%/80% but then they can not sell the drug... Stay away if you can. I'm now on 2% Rogaine and it seems 2 be burning my frontal hair and I wished I never used it. I'll move 2 5% and hope it works but if it's like all the others I'm fucked! Stay away from all the above untill/unless you really need it. I would have been much better off just not using anything. Propecia is the best bet for sure (same hair not limp/wimpy rogaine hair) but again, hair or dick? My wife likes dick!!!

Thanks for the input....im trying to get as much info as i can so if anyone else has any thoughts please let me know....im still contemplating the rogaine but there have been a lot of concerns on this board about rogaine actually making things worse....how common is this? does everyone experience this to begin with? i understand some shedding is supposed to occur...but then how do you know when its a problem or if its just working? for those of you who have had success with rogaine, has it helped stop the hairline from receding further?im not too concerned about regrowth...just hoping to stop the hair from getting thinner...and debating over the value of the possibility of success vs. lifetime dependency on a hair care product

Hey,

I'm in almost the same boat as you. I was always thinking 'lifetime treatment' but honestly, I'm just trying to keep my hair until I'm 40. Afterwards, I won't feel so bad about balding.

Another thing is, there will be better stuff in the future. HM will be out in 1-2 years. There are lots of things in the pipelines. So my personal opinion is that I would probably only need to use minox/propecia for another 5-10 years. Then switch to the new stuff. That's not so bad right?

If I were you, I'd get on propecia. It halts hairloss for most. Best of luck.

I've had excellent results using Minoxidil solutions combined with 1/4 Proscar tablet per day. Been doing this for 2 years with no negative side effects of any kind whatsoever. Assemble all the info you want from the experience of others. However, everyone responds differently. The only way to determine whether you'll have good results and/or negative side effects is to give things a try an see what happens! Furthermore, you have to stay with the program for the better part of a year before deciding on benefits. So many people make posts indicating that they didn't get any results in 2 or 3 months so they figured it didn't work. In that amount of time they didn't even give things a chance to work.

Hey Dude, here's a little more input. Since you've decided to give Minoxidil a go check out Dr. Lee's web site, www.minoxidil.com. It's a very good source of honest info and excellent products. His solutions leave your hair far nicer then Rogaine which is quite greasy. He also makes some custom formulations.

Re: Looking for help...receding hairline/thinning hair re: rogaine

I would personally recommend proscar/propecia as well, as it will make a big difference in keeping the hair you have (more than minoxidil will). I have used it for some time without any major sexual side effects.
