Ditching propecia and going pure minox - bad idea? I have only temporal hairloss and I am thinking about dropping the propecia and using just Minox. Has anyone done anything similar and, if so, what were your results? I'm not sure the propecia is doing anything for me -- although it could be saved me in the last few years??? But I just started the Minox because I am not happy with the way my temples (esp. the right one) look. If this works then it will be a much cheaper method of "treatment".Any thoughts?

Thanks but have you ever tried to take an extended period of time without one of the "treatments"? There just seems to be a lot of contradiction about which of the "big two" is the better treatment or whether they should be used in conjunction. Is the consensus that it is up to the individual to see what he best responds to?

i just dont want to start taking propecia cause that is like teh final line. After that there really isnt anything else you can do to get hair back besides a hair transplant.......so i figured if i have such great results on rogaine and lets say that in 5 years my body gets used to rogaine i can then go on propecia. that way i ll have at least 10 years:) of hair. if i started on both what am i going to do in 5 years when my body is starting to get immune to rogaine and propecia? start sounding like some of these people on here....making up some kind of funky chemical that supposedly grows hair..

yes there is..... numbered in order of effectiveness...if it doesn't work...go to / add the next to your treatment program 1) Minoxidil Only 2% 2) Minoxidil Only 5% 3) Minoxidil 5% + retin-A 4) Minoxidil 5%+ Azelaic Acid (Known as Xandrox, Available at www.minoxidil.com) 5) Minoxidil 12.5% + Azelaic Acid (Known as Xandrox Lotion) 6) Minoxidil 15% + Azelaic Acid (available from Community Drug...they can compound it adding other stuff too, available at www.communitydrug.com) And for the pills 1) Propecia 1mg once a day 2) Proscar 5mg once a day 3) Avodart 0.5mg once a day 4) Avodart 0.5mg twice a day (If you live outside the USA, you can order all the pills, WITHOUT a prsecription from www.internationalpharmacy.com at a reasonable price.) (If you wanna get generic propecia/proscar at a fraction of the price, try www.cyberdrug.net)
There you have it....There is much more beyond a regiment of propecia and plain old Minoxidil..YOU HAVE OPTIONS!

once your body is used to minoxidil then it is immune to it you might get a reaction if you went form 5% to 10% but minox is minox no matter what you mix it with your body still gets used to it..........as for allthe pills your listing they are all the same thing its all finesteride or whatever. but its basically the same chemical. its just a matter of time before your body is also adjusted it for it.

I don't think so Hoping....I've been on proscar 5mg for going on 11 years and it hasn't lost any effect yet. In fact, I had a blood test done before I started taking it and every year after...My systemic DHT levels in year ten are as low as they were in the first few years when the drug has its best effects... Also....Increasing the dosage...on propecia..or any drug for that matter prolongs your body getting use to the drug.... Also..Finisteride and Avodart are COMPLETELY different structually... There have been guys using minoxidil for over 20 years who still are maintaining and even increasing hair counts..... Your Post is Inaccurate.

Propecia stops DHT, which addresses one of the root causes of hair loss. Minoxidil is a growth stimulator, but does not address any of the known root causes. Propecia has an 86% rate of effectiveness for stopping hair loss, I think the Minoxidil success rate is about half of that (or less). Lots of guys think using them together is the best approach. If I was going to only use one treatment it would be Propecia. It's the most effective, and the most convenient. It doesn't work for every single guy though, and it's certainly not the perfect solution, but IMO it's the best thing available right now.

Sorry 16677 i am not saying you are wrong. Its just that i have read numerous times that the body does get used to minox and propecia. Yes of course increasing teh dosage is going to help but just from what i have read both of those drugs or any drugs start losing their potency after a while. and 20 years for rogaine WOW!? i am not doubting you but if that is really true really happy cause i was seriously afraid that in 5-10 years that ll be it cuase rogaine will lose its affectiveness and so will propecia. If you can find any articles i can read about the longivity of these two drugs i would be very greatful. thx dude ps: i also read that after a year of minox skip a week every 3 months to make it last longer.
