Propecia, Sex, and Quitting...

I'm 26 years old and have been on Procecia for almost 2 years. I think it has worked pretty well maintaining my hair, but I am getting tired of the sexual side effects. While I am rarely impotent, the hardness of my erection has been appreciably less since I started the treatment.

So anyway, enough was enough and I stopped taking it a week ago. The erectile side effect has continued. How long does this stuff take to get out of the system? Will the side effects go away as I was expecting?

Would anyone like to share their Propecia-quitting experience with me? I'd really appreciate it.

Sorry - I can't recall how long it took the sexual sides to go away - but they did eventually.  I don't recall it taking more than a few weeks though.

How much of a daily dosage were you taking?

Maybe after you get your mojo back - you could go back on - but at a reduced daily dosage just for maintenance's sake - like maybe 1/2 mg per day?

Something to think about.

Re: Propecia, Sex, and Quitting...

I've taken the 1mg every day for 2 years. I wasn't aware that there were lower dosages. I might consider a lower dosage, but I assume I would be splitting the difference with respect to the side effects.

Been almost 2 weeks now and still don't feel quite back to my old self. I know I'm 2 years older now, but the side effects from the Propecia were really obvious from the begining. I hope they go away soon.

I quit once after 3 years for the same reason and it took between 1-2 months.

I wonder if any people on Proscar would report sexual side effects if they had'nt read about these side effects prior to taking proscar? Could it be in your heads? Please don't think im being critical but impotence is a serious phscyochological issue.

Re:

I hear your skepticism about the side effects. I remember reading stuff on here before I started taking Propecia and thinking that it sounded like a lot of middle-aged balding men were using the drug as an excuse for their dimished sex drives.

But the side effects for me have been obvious from the begining. While the drug hasn't made me impotent, it has decreased the hardness of my erections and made sex less fun. I know I too am getting older, but I shouldn't have continous trouble getting fully erect at 26. The timing of the problem was too close to be a coincidence.

I know a few guys that have had similar problems. I don't know where the 2% number comes from, but I imagine it's creative drug company math. Maybe they ask respondants to describe the side effects in thie own words and use that as an excuse to break down each particular wording into its own "side effect." I don't know. Has to be fuzzy math.

I agree that there is a trade off between hair and sex with this drug. My hair is imporatnt to me and I hope to hold onto it for a while. Just didn't want to deal with the sex thing anymore...

Anyone recomend any other treatments???

A lot of people ask that same question all the time.  And I can't refer to any studies, but IMHO, it just makes sense that there's at least 1 or 2 guys out there that fall into that category.

For me and many others though - there were additional physical and quantifiable side-effects in addition to the sexual sides, and that was gyno.

If my breasts hadn't gotten noticeably larger - I'd be wondering if the rest of it was in my head too.

Re:

Which pills do you take? The actionlove website is very confusing. I can't figure out what he is recommending. I'm certainly willing to try this. Thanks.
