I'd be very interested in hearing people's opinions about quitting fin after being on the lasers a while. I'm on fin now and even though the sides are mild to nonexistent for me I would like to ween myself off. I'm hoping the lasers will help me to keep my fin hair or perhaps even increase upon it. I suppose we are to early in the lasers movement to have many testimonials about whether it is safe to quit fin with them, but I look forward to hearing more about this in the months ahead as people get established with their laser regimen.

avandalay- I'm hoping the same thing. I mentioned I've been off fin for 3months, I only started lasering about 3 weeks ago though, so obviously too early to tell yet. From what I've heard, people who quit fin seem to really notice hairloss again at about the 6 month mark, which is about the time for me when I should start to see some laser results (at about the 3 month mark). I'd love to hear from people too who stopped fin and started lasering a longer time ago, and what their experience has been.

I guess I could volunteer to be the guinea pig, but I'm reluctant to quit the fin just yet. Truth be told, it has been pretty good to me over the last ten years. Dramatically slowed my thinning and perhaps even regrew for a while. Sex drive is just fine. Over the last couple of years I have noticed some thinning despite the fin. But I can't imagine what it would be like if I'd not had it. I'm just concerned about being on any medication for my entire life.

Get over it? lol. Got news for you, whipper snapper. If it bothers you now, it's going to bother you later on.

avandalay - I'm in your same situation. Been on fin for 8.5 years, it regrew and maintained, minimal sides, but still I wonder about the long term effects of it and would prefer to not be on a prescription pill for life. So I'll experiment with it too. But if I start to rapidly lose hair, I'll probably get back on fin unfortunately.

There are human models with naturally lower DHT levels "pseudohermophrodites" that live full healthy lives. In fact, they have the same amount of circulating DHT as somebody on 5mgs of proscar. If you are not getting side effects, the only reason you should quit is if you get tired having hair.

Hi Member18875, Can you please update me on how it went for you after quitting propecia? How's the hair? i put up a similiar post with the following: I've been on propecia for over 12 years now. I started back when i was in college, now in my early 30s. I went on propecia as a preventative method as I've always been paranoid about losing hair, since my father is completely bald and so are a few of my cousins. Although, my brother has a full set of hair. I currently still have a full set of hair, therefore stopped using propecia about 1 month ago, as I'm not sure if i ever needed this drug to keep my hair. I've noticed an itchy scalp since i stopped using it, again about a month ago...but haven't noticed any hairloss. same amt of hair fall out during the shower or when i brush my hair, as always. My question to everyone, is this itchness a sign that propecia was actually working to prevent my hairloss? or should i wait it out 6 months to see if i do lose more hair, as other forums have stated? I don't want to lose my hair, so if i need to get back on the drug or other new drug/process that's new I will do that? please advise.
Member18875 said: 42 years old and I have been on propecia since it hit the market. I wonder how many other guys fall into the catigorie that I do: Started Propecia without knowing if I would really loose a lot of hair anyway. Back then, I started to see some hairline changes, nothing major but witnessed a slow and slight thinning during my mid thirties. Parents were not bald but a few uncles were, so I started purely for prevention.I was convinced that despite a full head of hair, the slow process would continue.(ok, was a little paranoid). But now I have no idea what is mine and what is mine due to the drug. Currently, due to a mild health issue. I am thinking of stopping cold turkey but of course at this juncture don't know what % of my hair is due to 5+ years of the drug. If I stop, how many weeks/months does it take for the "propecia" hair to fall out? Also, if I freak out in the weeks ahead and realize I was a bald man all this time with a head of propecia hair, can I start back up and expect to get back to the amount of hair I now have? Thanks for your help!

Itchiness is definitely a symptom of the inflammation associated with hair loss, but there's no way to know if that means you are going to lose hair you can get itching for a variety of reasons. I would say just to watch your hair closely and at the first sign of any hair loss jump back on propecia. If you do lose any hair it will most likely grow back if you get back on quickly. It could be you are just lucky and due to a lucky combination of genetics you don't have to worry about hair loss. Just keep a close eye on your hair and you should be fine.
