It's a reasonable strategy. I've heard about guys having success with your strategy. Guys who have side effects can sometimes take a half a Propecia (.5 mg) each day, or even every other day, and still maintain their hair. On paper, you should be fine (theoretically). Finasteride has a long half life, it stays in your system for a couple of weeks I believe. I would recommend that guys try to gradually ease their doses lower instead of making a big jump, then going back up, going down again etc. Try to find the right maintenance dose by reducing things slowly. If anything, you might try a quarter Proscar twice a week, or an eighth of a Proscar twice a week. I know some doctors tell their patients to use .5 every day or every other day, so that is a dose that has been legitimized and tested a bit. Keep a close eye on your hair, hopefully everything is good for the long term and **no worries**

Before I also took 1.25 mg of finasteride (1/4 Proscar). But then I got some testicle pain after 6 months of use. Fucking always so unlucky :-) Anyway, today I split my Proscar into 6 pieces which is about 0.85 mg a day. Don't know how it will wkork yet. But a hope it will be just as effective as the tested 1 mg. Try doing like me and se how it goes or try taking 1/4 Proscar every other day. BTW: My pain is almost gone as I took a break from finasteride for 7 days. Then lowered the dosage and no signs of any side effects yet...!...

Re: Graeme;I'm not the expert - but If I have the Math correct, you're doing 1.25 mg proscar per week, or 0.1785714 mg per day. I've heard tell the least amt one could take in terms of DHT fighting abilities is 0.2 mg. You're close - but below the least amt mark. And although finasteride stays in your system for weeks - I believe it's DHT fighting abilities only last a few days at a time. I'm not saying to change anything - as long as what you're doing is working. When I stopped taking proscar due to sides - the resulting hair loss was slow and gradual - but in a few years I went from a NW3 to a 5A - so yeah - definitly keep an eye on things. If you want to increase your chances of keeping the proscar effectiveness - you might want to consider cutting your 1.25 mg weekly chunk in 1/2 and take 2x per week (1/8th of a proscar tab or 0.625 mg 2 x per week). Good luck my friend.

Thanks for the feedback hair tomorrow but the sad thing is i am finding out now the side effects are still there. The first time i took 1.25mg of Proscar back in 1999 i new by the second day i new i was in trouble with libido but they say most times your body just has to adjust. The thing is my hairloss has stoped and it will be a shame to see my hairloss start up again after all these years.Thats why i am hopeing that using minox 5% twice a day and Nirozal 3 times a week i will still keep my hair.To all the people who think it may be in my head i was 1 Horny guy b4 Proscar.

Re: Graeme Australia said:Thanks for the feedback hair tomorrow but the sad thing is i am finding out now the side effects are still there.. . . Bummer. I'm in the same boat w/ the sides. I cut back to .3 mg per day for a few weeks when my nipples started burning (tell-tale gyno sign), added an estrogen blocker (which I wouldn't recommend to others - because I really don't know what the hell I'm doing), went back up to .5 mg per day, then .625 mg per day - and although my puffy chest problems are in check - the sexual sides just kicked in. For now, I'm going back to .5mg per day (well, 1 mg every other day actually). I'm going out of town for 10 days in August - and I'm thinking about just not taking any proscar at all for those 10 days - but then resume again when I get back at a lower dose. Good luck Graeme.

Hello hair tomorrow i came back from the Doctor and told him about the side effects that i have had from Proscar, and he said if it's having them side effects with your body you should stop using it all together. When i went off it for around 7 weeks i could feal my body coming back to how it was b4 i started.Thats when i thought i will only take it on sunday and see how i go but after around 3 weeks i have went backwards again with my sex drive. This is 1 powerful drug that not everyone can take.Nirozal and Minox is what i think i will have to use in the future unless something better comes out in Australia that is not a scam that works for hairloss.

Good thread. I've started taking finasteride in the form of finpecia which is basically just generic propecia but I don't need a tablet cutter or any crap like that which you need for Proscar. I tried it before for a few months and it was really working well but my supply ran out (this was about a year ago and at the time, it was difficult to get propecia without a prescription). This may seem stupid to some but I was embarrassed to get a prescription because I just don't feel like it's a real medical problem. I'm just being vain wanting to keep my hair. At least, that's how a lot of people see it. Anyway, I tried to order more from...well, a dodgy source that had worked the first time but the second time just took my money and delivered nothing so I just decided to give up on the problem. Then, about a two months ago, I decided to try again. This time, I think there shouldn't be a problem getting hold of the stuff as there are a lot more reliable distributors now that I know of. Anyway, what I do is take a pill a night like you're supposed to for the first month and then I change it to one pill every thirty six hours. So, if I take a pill in the morning, then I don't take another one until the evening of the next day. I think that this may be actually working and that the side effects may be due to an overdose. It's not an exact science how much of this stuff each person needs. It may depend on things like body weight, hormone levels etc. Also, by doing it this way, my body is building up less resistence to the drug so my hope is I'll be able to use it for longer and continue to see results. Anyway, that's my overly long reply to a very simple question.

Thor i think it's a good move to take less and see how you go.This is a powerful drug that works differnt on many people. Many people think if they stop using it within 2 weeks the hair starts to fall out i dont think so and i have never seen it happen with me yet.Everybodys hairloss is differnt some people loss is faster than the guy next door.So just try what works for you good move. You should try Minox5% it 's a very good product but everybody has jumped on the Propecia bandwaggan. Before Propecia everybody thought Minox was the best thing ever for hairloss it's funny how things change. Ps i am right behind Propecia if it works for you i think it's a works great in fighting hairloss.
