Propecia to Avodart - time for a change? Well I've been taking Propecia (along with Minoxidil, emu oil and Nizoral) for more than a couple of years now (actually Finpecia from united pharmacies). And I have taken numerous photos over that time. Unfortunately my hair is continuing to thin/recede. It's mainly at the temples, and I know people say Propecia doesn't work on a receding hairline, but I've been taking it none the less.Anyway, I've got about 20 tablets left of Finpecia and am contemplating give Avodart (or a generic form) a try. Has anyone else moved from Propecia to Avodart? And have had good or bad experiences with it? To be honest my hairloss has been fairly slow, but I would like to stop it all together. I've also considered stopping altogether, the problem is, even though my hair isn't rapidly thinning, I'm worried that it might start if I stop! Your thoughts/experiences are much appreciated. embryo.

Yes, Advodart is usually more effective at the hairline, but there have been some incidents were a sudden shit from fin to dut has produced a massave shead. Remember the escilation of committment rule: once you move up to advodart, propecia will mostlikley loose efficacy. An opinon from one who has walked the same path. For what its worth.

Is that a massive shed, followed by regrowth? Do you think it was a good move in your case?

I switched after taking propecia for nine years, and their definitley was a shed. I re-started taking propecia on my dut off days (which many say is pointless) and it's appeared to have stablized, but I really can't be too sure. What I can say for sure is that I have less hair now then before I started taking avodart in October. I'm going to stick it out though. Supposedly it takes four months of taking dut every day for it to build up to normal levels in your system. And currently, I'm only taking it two-three times per week. Whatever you do, I wouldn't stop everything unless you really don't care about your hair anymore. If you stop the fin, you'll probably lose more then you would expect. And if you take the avodart, understand that you might lose a lot of hair before any regrowth. Seems some respond great, and others just keep on shedding. Not to mention, you have to watch out for side effects. The only side effect I noticed that was different then fin was slightly lower libido.

I switched from propecia to avodart and found only success. no sides, no shed, and the pain in my scalp subsided as well. One thing I heard about propecia is that eventually the body ajusts too it, so changing the dosage can be effective. Have you considered increasing the amount of finestrade you take? Before I switched to avodart, my hairloss surgeon suggested I take two tablets instead of one. I did that and it worked for a while.

I take .5mg of dutasteride a day. If I miss a day, I double up. I know some guys only take the pill 2 or 3 days a week, but for now I'm sticking with every day because it's working for me.

I switched 40 days ago. I take Avodart every other day, ant used fin on the off days until I ran out which was about two weeks. I experience a shed at about 2-3 weeks, which seems to have gone away. The last two weeks hair loss has seemed to subside. No sides observed, seems to work as good as Propecia so far. Need a few more months to give a better evaluation.

I swithced from propecia to avodart about a year and half ago and now I regret it. At first it was fine, it didnt regrow any hair (my hair is somewhat thin but there for the most part) but maintained it just fine. Then a couple months ago I started having feelings of "hot flashes" and "pins and needles" in my skin. I went to the doctor and as it turned out,had raised certain hormone levels, including thyroid stimulating hormone and leutinizing hormone, both of which play a role in temperature regulation as well as sleep and mood. Now because of the rediculously long half-life of this drug (5 weeks) I have to suffer for several months until my hormone levels return to normal. The PDR confirms that avodart can raise certain hormones, which in my case, led to untoward intolerable side effects, so keep that in mind. This drug is not as mold as propecia, glaxo may have ended that hair loss trial in phase II for a reason. So beware.
