Has anyone tried a Finasteride "cycle"? In the same way a body builder, will go on a "cycle" with steriods to avoid the brunt of major side effects...Has anyone tried this with finasteride?(i.e., take it for 6 months then stay off it for 3 months...or something to that effect) I understand that finasteride has a long "half-life" and will stay in your system for a long period even after stopping dosage. I wonder if you can avoid or limit some of the side effects.Thanking you in advance for your responses...

You're probably mistaking finasteride for dutasteride regarding half life. Fin has a very short half life, I think 6 hours or something close, and is cleared from your system very quickly with DHT levels returning to baseline within a couple weeks. Not a good idea, in my opinion, to quit fin for 3 months.

I took off from ALL internals... Proscar every day (5mg) except for 2 Duts per week...for about 5-6 weeks...not one Proscar...not one Dut. No problems at the time...but 5-6 months later my hair was the worst I've seen...ever. And I use everything...minox,spiro,RU,Proctor stuff, copper stuff, emu oil. Probably a coincidence. But doesn't hair grow in 4-6 months cycles. I don't know. I'll never do that again. I just started taking 1mg finasteride 5X per day...which, in fact, equals the one Proscar per day...just spread out. I don't take finasteride on the 2 days I take the Dut. We'll see... it worked before. Then again, I use RU ...so maybe it was that. Ugh.

I've been taking 1.25mg Proscar portions everyday. That makes about a 8.75mg dosage every 7 days. This was my 1st time using Proscar as I had always used Propecia(I realize there both finasteride but in different dosages...) and I started getting side effects like I've never noticed before. Heavy shedding, oily nose etc... So I've scaled back to 1.25mg 3x a week for a total of 3.75mg every 7 days. I'm going to scale back even further when I go back to 1mg propecia just 3x a week for 3mg total dosage per week. I should note that I had been taking propecia and minox 2-5% pretty consistantly for apx. 3-4 years. I stopped minoxidil totally on Feb. 1st because of the alarming shedding that was going on in hopes to identify and curb it. This board has been very insightful. I never knew that some people were experiencing anxiety, depression, plumped up face, and man boobs (which I've experience all to some degree) with propecia. Which led me to post the original topic of a Finasteride cycle...

Theodore16, Yes, I stopped the liquid 5% minox on 2/1/07 and have continued on the finasteride. I can say with 90% certainty that my shedding has slowed down dramatically. I'm still 10-15%(lol!)unsure if it was the stronger finasteride dosage(using quartered Proscar tablets). If shedding continues to be curbed, I plan on starting the foam 5% minox in 1-2 months and seeing how that goes. As far as your question, "have u still seen good results after dropping minox?" If your question pertains to regrowth...too early to tell. If it pertains to shedding...then I would say a confident yes, that stopping minox curbed the shedding.

Don't do a cycle of finasteride. Just take a normal dose once a day and try not to worry about it. The rogain foam is pretty good too. Makes it easy to style your hair after application.

Re: HairWinsTheRace,I'm a new member to regrowth but have been researching hairloss for maybe last 8 months or so. I am really iterested in using RU58841, I know you can purchase it from Faith Eagle Corp in China. Is that where you get it from? I would really appreciate it if you could tell me how you make your concoction from the RU powder. I rememeber there was some pretty detailed posts on regrowth explaning how to make it but I can't seem to find them anymore, I think the moderator has removed them....conspiracy?? Have you ever just used RU by itself? If yes did you regrow any substantial amount of hair? Or do you think you still need a full regimen to get good regrowth, i.e. internals, hair stimulants etc?? you're feed back would be very much appreciated! Thanks in advance and all the best with your hair growing endeavours...

Hey, I generally use Fin in cycles ...and it kinda works for me......infact it was my dermat who suggested to cycle it and use topicals to retain the regrowth achieved by fin...and it works for me.
