minoxidil Hello,I'm thinking on taking a new step on combatting my hairloss, and would like to add a minoxidil 5% solution. Minoxidil is known a s 1 of the 3 "proven" ways to go, only i'm checking out the forum and i don't seem to see many people using it. Are there reasons for this? and are there many people having good results with minoxidil? Thanks for your imput

Hey man where is your balding taking place? I used it for a year for a receeding hairline and although it did sprout little hair fibers not really worth mentioning, it never gave me the results i needed. You'll quickly find that using it gets to be a pain in the ass. If you get the rogaine liquid form, it smells a little and forget about styling it afterwords since it changes the hair texture. It'll also dry up your scalp so start using a dandruff shampoo quickly. As far as the foam, it's a little bit better and actually smells kinda good, but it didn't seem as effective as the solution form. any way, back to the main point, I think they work decent if your balding on the top of your head as opposed to the hairline. You need to understand though, I don't think ANY of these products right now will get you to the head of hair you had at 16. Not even a transplant. So set the bar low and don't expect much so when you DO see results, you aren't as bummed as the rest of us.

speeddy gonbaldie: The reason that you don't see many people reporting that they are using Minoxidil on this forum is that Regrowth has become a hairloss posting site for so called alternative treatments. Minoxidil solutions are still one of the most effective treatment methods and there are a wide volume of actual scientific research studies in support of its benefit. In my case, I've had excellent results, including extensive frontal regrowth using the combo of 1/4 Proscar tablet daily combined with AM & PM applications of Minoxidil. Presently, I use Spectral DNC in the AM, which is nanosomal encapsulated Minoxidil, plus various other nanosomal encapsulate ingredients, and Dr. Lee's standard 5% Minoxidil with Retin-A in the PM. Some people respond quite well to Minoxidil, some just a little, and others not at all. However, the only way to tell if you're are one of the lucky ones, who responds quite well, is to use Minoxidil AM & PM for 1 year to 18 months and see what happens!

Sandman, do you know how much it cost to "nanosomal encapsulate" Minoxidil? Let me give you a hint, it has 5 zero's.

Minoxidil is a joke.Did nothing for me and using it was a pita. I remember a pharmacist telling me years ago that he had a bunch of people buying minoxidil who used it long term with no results. Not one person grew any hair. They looked the same and some looked worse,(lost more hair).

Everyone is entitled to think whatever they like about Minoxidil. However, if you think the stuff "is a joke", then the jokes on you. In my case, I've been using Minoxidil solutions since Feb. 2001 with excellent results. My hair has thickened and regrown throughout my entire scalp, including the frontal areas. Sure my hair isn't as thick as it was as when I was in my thirties, but it pretty darn thick with no obvious signs of hairloss, with the exception of some mild frontal recession that hasn't filled in completely, particularly on the right side. In my opinion, those that have the best chance of responding well to Minoxidil treatment are those with mild cases of MPB that onsets later in life. This was the case with me and I've responded quite well. However, if you have an aggressive case of MPB that starts in your late teens or early twenties, chances are that Minoxidil treatment most likely won't be of major benefit. In my opinion, the bottom line with Minoxidil treatment is the less you need it the better it will work!

well, when i started balding the first product that i tried was minoxidil 5%, i got tired of using it and thought it didn't do much so i stopped after 7 monthjs or so. Only thing was that once i stopped people started noticing my balding. Maybe stopping minoxidil set in a shed or let the hairs fall down that i had. Or maybe my balding just proceded at its normal rate that it would be going at. don't know I want to give my hair growth 1 more big push, and stop looking at these forums and my hair situation for a while seeing that it is eating up a lot of time and money, i have a horseshoe patern of thinning am 24 years old and am trying to gain some density mainly at the back, so I just bought a years worth of minoxidil and will be trying it. This time though i will be trying to document my starting point and and measure it with my future results. This i now believe is very important, because just as you guys said, you shouldn't expect miracles. and you probably wont notice the hairs youve gained seeing that they grow at a rather slow rate until you stop and loose it again! so by looking back at the clear pictures, you will have a "scientific" vieuw instead of your own expectation pattern. Just have a question, i've read of many people adding retin-a to their minoxidil solution, i think that i can get retin-a at my pharmaci and add it in myself, just how much do you guys advise to put in each bottle? thanks, cheers
