Fatigue caused by finasteride? is loss of energy, feeling fatigued a possible side effect of lowered dht levels?

It is of fin. I experienced those along with weight gain, depression and, of course, loss of libido.

i've taken it for the last 10 days or so and i feel exhausted and tired all the time. last night, i slept 11 hours and was still tired when i woke up. crazy. anyway, i was just wondering about the exact science behind it all. why would finasteride cause fatigue? is it the lowered dht levels? inhibition of 5-ar? some other consequence of either said event?

there is probably no studies with the above sides, we are talking about Merck here and the FDA, they hide everything and the poor peopl are suffering of dieing. I had many sides from fin tiredness was not one of them. But if i could go back in time i would not of taking fin. Try a topical lotion with fin there are many.

DHT is also metabolized in the brain, as well as the liver, hair follicles, scalp, testes, and prostate. I would bet that interfering with this metabolization, especially in the brain, would lead to 'brain fog' and lethargy.

I experienced similar sides like getting very tired and sleeping half the day away. Finasteride also caused severe depression and dry facial skin. Since the sides only gradually became severe, it was first after about 2 years I realised it was because of the finasteride. Since you experience this after only 10 days I would definately recommend that you quit using it. Many others have had similar side effects, ie. www.propeciasideeffects.com

Nothing against the members here but I don't see how you can blame something for a certain symptom unless there is a controlled study to prove it. Maybe it is coincidence or it may be propecia but to say it is without careful study is wrong IMO. I have been taking it for 8 months and no energy loss, no weight gain. The only thing I have noticed is the lower libido at the beginning but that has gone away. I am not saying that propecia is not causing the problems people are talking about but before passing judgement look around because something else may be causing it.

You might have seen this baldingblog.com thing: Blood Pressure Drop, Fatigue from Finasteride Dr. Rassman basically poo-poos the idea, but I've seen him really be off-target on one or two of his answers, so take it with a grain of salt. He hadn't even heard of caffeine as a treatment for hairloss, but instantly poo-pood that and equated it to something like "lots of scams have come and gone" or something. ...And it's times like this when I have to ask myself, especially after "The Great Laser Debate", have I become completely jaded against doctors?? I try not to be -I swear- but I just get angry when I see sites like quackwatch that get wrapped up in the ole "we're the establishment and we know everything there is to possibly know already" mentality.
Jacob... I'm sorry if you take offense to that if you *are* actually Dr. Y like some have suggested!
