Sandman, The real issue is that using any DHT blocker (finasteride or dutasteride) will reduce the normal levels of PSA (prostate-specific antigen). Having abnormally low levels of PSA does not cause cancer but it does make it harder to detect it if it is present. The way around this is to inform your physician that you are on finasteride or dutasteride and he/she will use a different normal range to assess your PSA levels. RonLev

Your an idiot plain and simple if you believe it safe to take fin. It lowers your chance of prostate cancer but increases your chance of other cancers which most likely will kill you. The studies have been mentioned before. Simple stay away from drugs that play with hormones.

Re: Finasteride and Prostate Cancer sandman, I've left a PM for you over at HLH.As for the fin, that's good to hear! There were conflicting reports on this before so it was about time the scientists sorted this out.

I remember reading a study that said fin lowered prostate cancer risk but that those in the study who did get prostate cancer had more malignant forms. DHT is your friend whether you think so or not.

hairlosser: The study I referred to in this post is the same one you refer to. However, the results have been reevaluated! BTW, BobTheBuilder, I'm not aware of any studies, as you assert, that show that Finasteride "increases your chance of other cancers which most likely will kill you." Please be so kind as to provide us with documentation. Thanks!
