Brain fog on Propecia

Im 26 and 2 weeks ago started .5mg of Propecia. I always take it in the morning. During the last week I noticed during the afternoon I get a feeling of what I suspect is the brain fog. I never take drugs, except for the recent Propecia, and eat very healthy.

When I wake up I feel fine, very clear headed. Then around mid afternoon I begin to feel the effects. Then in the evening it seems to get a bit better. I go to sleep and wake up feeling fine. Then the process repeats.

I would describe the brain fog as:

1. Very slight feeling of recovering from a drunkenness from the night before.

2. A bit of tiredness.

3. Not being able to read as well, need to slow down reading.

4. Feeling like I cant speak as well (like I might stutter).

5. Occasional exaggerated movements.

I can see why some people dont experiance symptoms when they really are especially if they have active jobs like sports, or work in contstruction, etc..., some of the more "ruff" jobs. I work at a computer and must be able to concentrate and read, so I notice the slightest feeling of brain fog.

I have no other side effects at all. I was surprised that I got brain fog out of all the possible sides.

My question is: is what I described really brain fog, or is this maybe just phycological, knowing that fin can cause sides before I started. Should I keep trying it for a while or stop it now?

My biggest concern/question: does brain fog cause perminant damage to my brain? If so, I want to stop taking it. If not, I think these symptoms, because they are not extreme, are OK for me to live with if I get to keep my hair.

Today I ran out of the Propecia sample box my doc gave me so I will skip tomarrow to see if I feel fine in the afternoon tomarrow.

I am a finasterid(proscar) user myself, 1.25 mg a day for the last 6-5 months or so, have lost track. In my case, I suffered from something slightly similiar, but milder than you I guess, but I recall feeling the same way as you. I do not want to push an advice or anything of what you should do, there are bunch of guys on this forum way more knowlegdeable on the propecia subject than I am, but I can say you this.. Mine dissappeared when around the same time that I really bumped up my internal regimen, meaning, starting Resveratrol/Curcumin, heaps of cod liver oil, magnesium, etc, etc, and actually just changed my whole way of dieting to the better Hope it helped =)

N0rwegianKid: I have been on Immortal Hairs top 3 regimine for about a month now (includes the cod liver oil, Curcumin, etc..) I have also changed my diet to reflect everything I read about MPB and had this diet for about 9 months. How long after you started fin did the side effects go away? What brand of fin do you use?

I use proscar divided in four. I actually started around november last year on a 0.20 mg dose, and then gradually made my way up to 1.25 mg a day around the end of january. I guess that is when I started noticing mild sides of those you describe.. I also got a bit aggressive for some reason unknown to me then, that made me kind of wondering, but I have read now that may be due to higher levels of androstenedione, interestingly enough That has passed too. But to answer your question, it disappeared around the beginning of may I guess, some time after I started my internal regime.

Minimi,

When I took fin I had serious brain fog. It used to occur in the mid afternoons just like you described and at first wasn't really that noticeable. As the weeks went by though, it got worse and worse every day until it was at the point where I couldn't make the 30 minute commute home from school. (I felt like I had to pull over and take a nap and I actually did pull over to the side of the road for a few minutes...) After that I stopped taking fin and it took a few months for me to lose all signs of the brain fog.

To answer your question of whether or not this is really brain fog, I would have to say that it is. If you feel like something's different in your thinking you're probably right. I was the same way as you, not wanting to admit I had the side effect because I wanted to keep taking the drug. But after reading around and hearing that some people have had permanent damage from it I immediately quit. Thankfully, I recoved after a few months of being off the drug.

I get the brain fog too along with the other crappy sides. An idea would be to take it in the afternoon so the brain fog comes and goes during your sleep.

N0rwegianKid and Jus, your experiances differ greatly, one of you the sides went away, and the other the sides got worse.

cuebreeze: congrats on your 1000th post! I thought about taking it in the afternoon so as to avoid the sides and have them at night when I sleep, but that is just masking the problem. I wonder if this fin in the brain is mostly harmless like a bit of alchohol in your brain every now and then, or if its destroying it somehow.

If I remember, the brain fog issue is due to adverse effects on neurosteroid synthesis in the brain. Fin shouldn't cause this because the 5AR type expressed in the brain is Type I and fin blocks type II. However, in reality, it seems it seems that fin as some effect on Type I also. Not to stress you guys out but I do remember reading somewhere that defective neurosteroidgenesis can cause fat build up in the cells of the brain, which in theory could lead to an Alzheimer's disease type of effect. Obviously, all speculation.

You may want to consider cutting down the dose again minimi, try 0.25mg at night and see how it goes.

laserkid: again, the advice of taking the dose in the evening so as to not realize the side effects of brain fog during the day, may not be the best idea if your theory of defective neurosteroidogenesis is correct. I would rather be aware of the sides of fin (as that could be a sign that something is wrong) for myself rather than be asleep during the brain fog.

I skipped my dose today and feel fine (first day in a week or so without brain fog in the afternoon).

From the recent studies I read, .25 mg is just about as good as .5 or 1 mg, so that may be what I end up doing if I want to continue fin. I never trusted any man-made drug, I wish they would hurry up with hair multiplication...

minimi: Do yourself a favor and drop the fin.

I know exactly the symptom you speak of and after almost 2 years off of fin the symptom you speak of still persists to a degree.

And to those that will say that it is all in my head...well they can go fuck themselves because I can say for sure this drug fucked me up in more ways than the above and I guarantee some interesting "findings" will surface on this drug in the near future.

Unless you have a serious prostate problem, stay away.

That is my hard earned 2 cents at least or you can classify me as one of the so-called 5% or whatever the fuck figure they are spewing these days that experienced sides.

I mean you are basically putting an off switch in line with a very important hormone in you body that dictates many important functions. What do you expect?
