Started losing it in a big way (Telogen Effluvium. Up to 1000 hairs fell out a day in the initial rush, tapered to a mere 200-300 though) started minox5%, finasteride 1.25,g, NANO, retin-A. All this time on, i basically just use Finasteride 1.25mg now, plus Minoxidil 5%. I kinda maintained it for a stretch back then, but now, the fallout has resumed with a vengeance. The "pattern" of thinning is becoming more and more apparent. I must be losing about 200-300 hairs p/day again. i'd like to think that it is just natural fallout, with the hairs that regrow moving toward terminal, but given my steadily appearing Norwood 35+ state, that clearly isn't the case. I have stuck to my little regime religiously, only because it became such a part of my routine, i didn't have to think about it to do it. 3 years, and it hasn't helped me. I think these drugs are a waste of money ultimately. i don't have any alternatives, or bright optimism to offer this forum, but i think that i am entitled to vent a little bitterness at my lost money, and youth.

i truly hope that some form of genetic therapy is found for this soul destroying affliction, but i am not holding my breath. Even back then, the "big cure" was only "a year or so" away. A year or so is here NOW, and there is still nothing in sight. Thrice Cursed.

How is your diet? Are you taking any other medications? I've been taking finasteride for about 4 yrs now and use to sometimes think that it was not helping. But a couple of times when I ran out and neglected to get a refill for a couple months, I began to realize that it was in fact helping me to keep what I have. During this time of abstinance I began to shed much more than I had with finasteride. I had the same type of fallout as yourself. To the point where I was embarrased because of it. I could have made a sweater or something with the hair I lost in just a month. For me rogain stopped the shedding, and I tried propecia but I dont see it helping any after 3.5 months.

Rogain has indeed helped tremendously, for me.

Hi, I started taking Finasteride two weeks back and my hair shedding increase twice, some article said that is a good sign that the medicine is working and when i read this article i got totally confused, from your experience do you think i should stop taking the medicine or should i wait some time to see if i will get any improvement.

I appreciate your feedback on this.

Re: Been on Finasteride for almost 3 years now. It's been a waste of $$$

I've been using Finasteride combined with Minoxidil with Retin-A for 1 3/4 years. The results have very excellent and far exceeded my expectations. I don't think I had increased shedding at the start, but have heard of many people who do. Everything that works will cause increase shedding in some people. Want my advice stick with it!
