Re: Loss of Libido with Propecia thanks for the info.i don't think i want a drug in my body that causes libido problems, even if those problems go away in 3 months. i'm not comfortable with a drug that screws with my chemistry so profoundly. it's just me. i'm a little paranoid. regarding the fda testing. if merck, upjohn, etc. believe their products will work on the front hairline, they would sponsor that specific testing and publish those results to open up the product to that huge market segment. if they haven't published results with respect to the hairline, then those results aren't good. you know they've done the tests. they can't afford not to. it's too lucrative of an opportunity.
Temp said: Hi guys, been using Propecia/Proscar and minox for over 3 yrs with great results. My experience with libido loss is that it mostly comes back after you have been on the drug for 3 months or so/ Many of the side effects wear off in time, and if it does'nt quitting will reverse the side effects. Also the drug co.s can only claim results on the top and back of the head because that is where they did the testing to get the drug passed the FDA for sale, but believe me if you are a good responder you can get the front filled in as well. I have recovered from a late Norwood 3 to a near complete recovery. It takes time and I did have noticeable shed cycles along the way where I would get filled in, but then for a month or so 1/2 inch hairs would fall out. After about 3-4 months they would fill back in with thicker and longer replacements, as my hair reversed the shrinking process which was causing the baldness. Good Luck, Temp

Re: Loss of Libido with Propecia freak I disagree about the testing, but understand your point. I read the original study findings and saw the picture of a guy who was used in the study. There was a before and after and this guy clearly filled in a great deal of his temples as well as the back in one year w/out Minox. Merck does not advertise the front fill in, but clearly knows its possible. I am also proof of frontal fill in, but its coming back last because it went first, reversing my balding pattern. I do think you have to be a good responder, and not everyone will, but a minority of users can recover front to back. If you haven't yet read the Propecia 5 yr Results article on the main page it discusses the rare occurrence of libido problems and how they diminish. There was also another article on this site which in part discussed how frontal fill in is possible, but that was a while back. thanks for the info.i don't think i want a drug in my body that causes libido problems, even if those problems go away in 3 months. i'm not comfortable with a drug that screws with my chemistry so profoundly. it's just me. i'm a little paranoid. regarding the fda testing. if merck, upjohn, etc. believe their products will work on the front hairline, they would sponsor that specific testing and publish those results to open up the product to that huge market segment. if they haven't published results with respect to the hairline, then those results aren't good. you know they've done the tests. they can't afford not to. it's too lucrative of an opportunity.

Re: Loss of Libido with Propecia Hi Phil As far as I know there are no studies that condemn the use of Proscar is conjunction with Viagra. Please feel free to correct me if anyone else has better information! Taking Proscar is a risk, because Proscar is a relatively new drug that has to be taken a lifetime long if the desired results are to be maintained. There is no telling what other effects this drug can have on you 20 or 40 years down the line. The choice that you make is to hope for the best and to count on a result for your hair loss now. Each person has the freedom to choose.
phil said: Hi everyone, I'm a male in my 20s who has been taking Propecia for about 1.5 yrs now and has experienced some mild hair regrowth. Unfortunately, I have also noticed a very gradual decrease in libido since I've started the process that has now become noticeable. I suspect that side effects like this one that come on very gradually would not be accurately reflected in the published 2% side effects with Propecia because people simply do not notice the changes because they come on so gradually... Anyway, I would like to determine whether or not it really is the Propecia that is causing my loss of libido and not something else, but I'm not sure what the best way is to determine this. Certainly, I could go off Propecia for a while and see if my libido comes back, but then I would risk undoing a lot of the hair regrowth that I've experienced. I would do this for a few days, but if it would take a few weeks to notice any differences in my libido, I'm not sure it would be worth it. So, my first question is: 1) If anyone has experienced a loss of libido and has subsequently gotten it back after coming off Propecia, how long did this take? I am also considering simply lowering the dosage (maybe to 0.5 mg) and seeing if this brings my libido back. So, my second question is: 2) How low can the Finasteride dosage go while still having a significant effect on stopping hair loss. Thanks. Any thoughts at all would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Loss of Libido with Propecia Hi guys,I've been on Propecia for 3 years now, and I too noticed a loss of libido after a few weeks. Basically, that means I didn't walk around horny all the time. I could still get a woody, but my "loads" were definately a lot smaller! After about a year, this mostly wore off, but I still don't have the sex drive I used to have pre-Propecia. But then, that's probably a good thing. I'd rather have my hair and a smaller sex drive thatn be a horny bald guy... definately!

Re: Loss of Libido with Propecia Yo Sleazy P,that's my situation exactly.... smaller loads, little less horny... I've got viagra in case I ever get in a pinch....However for me, it's a small price to pay for having regrowing hair (plus now I can actually get some work done)...still I hope dutasteride has less of an effect on libido.... Re: Loss of Libido with Propecia I am 35 and have been using Finasteride 1.25 mg for about 7 years now--it has mostly stopped my hair loss and I was able to grow some back as well, but it is not a miracle drug.I have never had any negative side effects. Even at 35 I still walk around horny all day :) For those who have had these side effects, you have to take into account 2 possibilities: if your libido is actually lower, something else could be causing it; it could be a placebo effect, where you expect it might happen, and it, of course, does. It could also be a "real" side effect, but I think that the chances of it are pretty slim. Good Luck.
